What You’ll Do (Roles & Responsibilities)
As AI growth is accelerating, Cisco is developing ground-breaking technologies and customer solutions to lead the industry. These technologies are constantly evolving across different commodities.
Your role is expected to excel at switching power supply design review. It is imperative that you possess a robust understanding and practical experience in the intricacies of power supply design and knowledge of how to quantify the design robustness and reliability. This specialized knowledge is crucial for the development and optimization of highly efficient and reliable power delivery from the facility power grid to networking equipment.
Your responsibilities encompass end-to-end quality and reliability management of power supply units, advanced design and manufacturing technology evaluation, and supply chain resiliency management. You will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
Design Expertise
Ensure designs meet technical requirements. Craft design margin measures to quantify robustness under all applicable operating conditions and worst-case tolerances, including circuitry tolerance analysis, component stress versus SOA, firmware control logic examination, transient operation evaluation, and redundant operation evaluation.Sub-tier Component Knowledge
Deep understanding of key sub-tier components used in power supply design. Ensure components from qualified suppliers with mainstream technology are selected. Understand component characteristics and their impact on circuitry performance and stability. Conduct quality and reliability evaluation through data analysis and design of experiments.Environmental and Reliability Qualification
Set reliability targets. Identify design weaknesses through TC, THB, PTC, vibration, and other stress tests. Apply accelerated stress test methodologies to evaluate long-term reliability and quantify risk to drive improvement opportunities.Manufacturing Readiness
Understand end-to-end manufacturing processes for complex power supply units. Examine assembly and test process capability and assess quality control plans to ensure sustainable manufacturing readiness.Standards Compliance
Ensure designs adhere to industry standards (IPC, IEC, NEBS, Telcordia, IEEE, etc.) and applicable regulatory requirements.Collaboration and Communication
Build strong working relationships with multi-functional teams, suppliers, and supply chain partners. Communicate and present complex ideas, anticipate objections, and influence stakeholders, including senior leadership.Problem-Solving
Lead resolution of design issues, quality reviews, and root cause analysis across the product lifecycle, from early feasibility through end of life.Program / Vendor Management
Lead multi-functional internal and external teams in development and lifecycle management of power supplies and key sub-tier components. Manage relationships with key vendors and act as the primary point of contact between Cisco engineering and suppliers.Your role will be pivotal in bringing to market high-quality, reliable power supplies with high efficiency and density.
Who You’ll Work With
You’ll be part of the Component Quality & Technology (CQT) Organization within the SCO organization. CQT focuses on evaluating and developing new technologies to enable sustained product differentiation. You will work with Cisco Business Units, suppliers within the commodity space, and extended supply chain functions including Global Supply Management, Product Operations, and the Global Manufacturing Organization.
Who You Are (Desired & Soft Skills)
Highly motivated with a strong background in switching power supply design. Interested in developing expertise across multiple disciplines required to bring new designs from concept to production. Passionate about problem-solving, continuous improvement, and product quality. Collaborative, adaptable, and able to communicate complex technical issues across all levels of leadership.
Minimum Requirements
Education & Experience
BSME/BSEE or equivalent with 8+ years of power supply design experience for networking or computing equipment.Technical Expertise
Expert knowledge in high-efficiency, high-density power supply design and qualification (5+ years on advanced designs: >3KW, Titanium efficiency, 45+ W/cubic inch).Proven experience in product reliability evaluation and qualification.
Experience leading failure analysis and quality improvement activities, with delivery of at least one quality improvement program.
Preferred Requirements
Technical Skills
Strong analog circuit design skills including tolerance analysis, electrical and thermal stress analysis, and loop stability analysis.Experience characterizing power semiconductors in power conversion topologies.
Knowledge of thermal design principles and digital control architecture for power converters.
DFM review experience and manufacturing readiness assessment.
Proficiency in PCB/PCBA fabrication and assembly techniques.
Experience working with multi-functional teams to generate requirements and conduct root cause failure analysis.
Presentation & Communication
Experience presenting to large product teams, including senior leadership.Quality Management
SPC, Cpk, dFMEA & pFMEA, 8D/Corrective Action, DOE, and Lean continuous improvement methodologies.Additional Experience
Experience with wide bandgap switch devices (GaN/SiC) is a plus. -
