Cisco Secure Linux Team

Become a key member of the Cisco Secured Linux team.. Our team provides automation to harden Cisco’s On-Premises products with our own Cisco Secured Linux approach to hardening Open-Source Linux distributions. Cisco is looking for an energetic, innovative, and self-starting software engineer to focus on securing and automating the hardening of Open-Source Linux distributions. The initiative seeks to increase product security through resiliency in the software supply chain increasing trustworthiness through automation, development, integration and deployment of reusable software and hardware solutions.

Your Impact

Role & Responsibilities

The Software Engineer will work as a team member within the Cisco Secure Linux initiative, securing build environments through automation as a foundation for Cisco’s product teams. The ideal candidate will have spent 10+ years of software experience with coding and verification, testing embedded software and/or firmware and have experience with product security, secure development, operating system development/support, microprocessor architecture, and cryptographic algorithms. The candidate’s responsibilities will include automation development, verification, and deployment support of common operating-system level security features as well as many related software runtime defenses and hardening tech.

  • Workflow automation in Jenkins, Groovy, Python, github, containers and other modern tools, with technical leadership in deploying one or more security technologies such as Linux Kernel (KSPP) hardening, Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR), Built-In Object Size Checking (BOSC), stack protection, least privilege design, and other OS-level security technologies.
  • Work closely with Cisco’s IT organization and global Cisco product development teams securing, educating, consulting, supporting and debugging integration of product build environments.
  • Develop documentation, proof of concepts, reference code, and scripts to facilitate adoption and verification of technologies.
  • Analyze and mature new software security technologies and identify mechanisms to integrate and deploy technologies across a wide variety of Cisco products and software environments.
  • Develop and support test tools to validate security feature implementations.
  • Lead and influence architecture, specification, design, and code reviews.

Minimum Qualification/Requirement -

Masters Degree in Computer Science or equivalent with a strong software programming background and 10+ years working with Linux.

Strong skills in the Linux Kernel.

Computer security background desired.

C & C++ a must.

Strength in Linux runtime defenses such as Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR), NoeXecute (X^R) and Object Size Checking (OSC).

Preferred Qualifications –

Strong Linux Kernel Engineer with experience with the Kernel Self Protection Project. Memory safe languages desired.

Compiler expertise a real bonus.
