YOUR PURPOSE
As a Protocol Specialist you will work with our team to support our network (on-chain) data products and services. Join a fast-paced startup pioneering novel metrics, data products, and insights surrounding the economics, markets, usage, health, and other aspects of public blockchains like Bitcoin, Ethereum and other prominent Layer-1 networks. You will be surrounded by talented people passionate about decentralized economies and the data behind them. Break new ground, create exciting new data-driven research and products, and help shape future economies.
YOUR VALUE
- Understanding and creating relevant research (including protocol overviews) on blockchain protocols’ inner workings (infrastructure requirements, data structures, governance, economics, etc)
- Assessing various blockchain clients and the RPC / API interfaces, understanding the data structures, and documenting the end-to-end interaction with these protocols from the perspective of node running and data interpretation
- Working with blockchain protocol teams and communities to help Coin Metrics act as a trusted partner and steward of their networks, providing feedback and actively contributing to their open source efforts
- Staying on top of protocol changes and how those changes impact Coin Metrics’ downstream applications
- Collaborating with backend data extraction and interpretation teams and infrastructure teams to alert them of protocol changes that could impact Coin Metrics’ applications/operations
- Working collaboratively with our research, engineering and infrastructure teams to increase our on-chain asset coverage
- Acting as the relevant protocol expert on sales and client service interactions
YOUR EXPERTISE AND EXPERIENCE
- Deep knowledge of and interest in blockchain networks and their data structures (you want to live and breath crypto protocols)
- Proficiency in a major programming language such as Kotlin/Java/Python (Kotlin preferred or willingness to learn Kotlin if not already proficient)
- Proficiency in SQL (preferably PostgreSQL)
- Proficiency building, maintaining, testing data pipelines and warehousing
- Participation (e.g., engaging with protocol teams, making proposals, providing feedback) in a blockchain community is a plus
- Strong sense of ownership, entrepreneurial spirit, and/or startup-like experience, capable of driving towards solutions independently while seeking feedback when appropriate
